I've been getting quite a few hits from people who I am assuming are also obsessed with the case, so I thought I'd write and share my thoughts with you. Maybe if you like, you can write me or comment and we can chat about it!
I don't think any of us are crazy for having such a fascination with this trial. Casey Anthony is a quasi attractive young lady who looks like a girl we may have gone to high school with or the girl next door. She was maybe a nice girl back then. She liked photography and going to parties but she never graduated High School and you haven't heard a thing about her since then. However today you learn that that girl you knew back in the day is now involved in the most fucked up, inconceivable thing you've heard about in forever and guess what? It's all her fault!
So, um yeah? Of course you're going to want to know what happened! You mean she killed her kid? Casey Anthony killed her kid? Noooo! She doesn't look like a kid killer. She doesn't fit the mold of what we think of a child killer looks like. Now, while no one may fit that mold, there may not have been such national shock when we learned that John Wayne Gasy killed kids and he just so happened to look like this.
And nevermind the fact that there hasn't been such a giant national trial since our old friend Scott Peterson killed his wife and unborn child back in 2003. But I feel like this story has more allure, and I don't know why because there is nothing glamorous about it. But yet my girlfriend Amy and I talk about this case as if it were a soap opera. But this is real! And I think that because it is so real is part of the attraction. Maybe because this goes against the nature of what we all believe to be the spirit of humanity: people are good (right? : / ) Well, we all want to think that people are good and most of us try to be. I'm sure aside from maybe the occasional cranky mood or stupid mistake, you and I are pretty good people.
So with that, we can both agree without a question of a doubt that Casey Anthony (guilty or innocent) is an absolute horrible monster human being that was a part of her child's death and cover up one way or another. So that alone is attractive. So it's only natural that we are so fascinated by this case because it's entirely something that we are not.
And then Casey Anthony's reaction to the death of her child goes against nature. The result of all this madness we have been talking about is that an innocent child is dead. That's it. But whether Casey killed Caylee or not, her reaction to the death of her child is not normal. Most human mothers never get over the death of a child. So when we see that Casey was out celebrating and raging it up with her friends makes us wonder: Why isn't she home grieving? Why isn't she devastated? Didn't her kid just die? Wait a second, this isn't right. WTF is up with this girl?
Maybe because she did kill Caylee and that's what she wanted.
Ugh Not to mention the lies. All the lies she told! How can one keep all of that strait? It is very difficult for anyone to begin to understand how someone can lie so incessantly, but also so well!
This all reminds me of the movie "The Usual Suspects." Kevin Spacey's character, Roger "Verbal" Kint manages to allude the police by making up a series of lies using the name brands of objects around him and pretending to be a cripple. He's also a convincing liar, so much to the point that the cops let him walk away (without the limp anymore, of course) only to figure out later that he is the suspect they have been searching for all along: Keiser Sose.
But this isn't a movie! This is real life, and we cannot rationalize her lies. It just doesn't make sense to a lot of us because lying is so difficult to do! And for most of us, lying is exhausting. You have to keep your story strait, remain convincing and all the while you have to deal with the guilt you are feeling and the shame of whatever it is you are trying to cover up. So to see someone who can lie with such ease about something so horrible is mind blowing!
(On a side note, to the above photo - my husband replied "Yeah like killing her child and burying them down the road." Gallows humor, I know, I know!)
I also think a lot of people who have been following this from the get go feel duped, as if they were lied to as well by Casey. So that must create a sort of natural attraction to the case by feeling somewhat personally wronged by Casey. Take for instance, the Balloon Boy. Americans still revolt about that hoax because for a short amount of time we were there with the family, worrying about the kid that never was in the balloon to begin with. People don't forget that shit!
Lastly, I think we are all interested because no one knows what happened. Naturally, we want to know what happened and by following the story closely, you hope to find out maybe a little more detail about what actually happened. Think about it. A friend of yours tells you they have to tell you something, but they can't tell you now. You know you're itching to find out! Everyone wants the inside scoop!
However, this is different because there is a beautiful young child that has died because of something that happened and we don't know about it. And because we are good people, and care about this young girl that died, we want to know not so much how it happened, but why it happened. And that is the biggest thing of all. WHY did this happen? I think that is the number one reason why we are attracted to this story.
In the end Casey Anthony's fate will be determined and she may very well be sentenced to death. So of course we want to see how this all unravels.
Anywho! Here are a few Casey Anthony time killers:
- Here's a link to the letters she wrote to her pen pal in prison. Those are a good read and should satiate your Casey Anthony urges for the rest of the evening. There's about 500 so that should keep you busy.
- Here's a link to the images to her photobucket that were recently submitted as evidence
- And if that wasn't enough, and you are really THAT OBSESSED and want to write Casey Anthony - here's how to address a written letter to Casey Anthony in prison. The address is correct and you can check it if you like.

PS - There's no doubt that her defense is pretty shitty. I'm no lawyer and I'm not very familiar with how a trial or a courtroom is run. So I have to say that when a layman like me is thinking "that can't be good for the defense" and then to have the news commentary confirm my speculation? That's pretty bad! Also, how on earth is the defense going to back up their crazy claim that her father & her brother molested her? The loving exchange between herself and her father, then herself and her brother is going to be hard to dispute. Nevermind some of the pictures from her photbucket that were submitted into evidence. Take this for example:
The coolest guy I know wouldn't molest anyone!

I am thinking back to the OJ Simpson trail on Larry King. My second thought is about The Innocent Man, John Grisham's first nonfiction book, is the story of Ron Williamson's wrongful murder conviction and twelve years on death row. This was a huge miscarriage of justice
Whether or not, she was molested, doesn't fathom how a mother could kill her child...verdict waiting.
I was molested as a child, but would have killed anyone who did that to my children or grandchildren. Very poor excuse for her emotional problems
She is a lying self serving bitch...and i wrote her to let her know just that! I hope the last thought she has when they stick a needle in her arm is the thought of her killing her child. She only said that her brother and father molested her to get a rise outta her boyfriend for more of a pitty party about her! BOO-HOO BITCH I HOPE YOU DIE!
